This is his companion Elder Humble. We decided to write each other's emails because we felt our weekly emails were getting a little stale.
It has been an awesome week! Elder Wadsworth has shown us a few of his special talents, such as solving rubix cubes and putting his pants on by jumping and sliding them on in one fluid motion before he lands.
Yesterday was a pretty sad day. A few days ago a huge swarm of bees made a home out of part of the roof in the building next to us. We have been checking the progress of the bees every time we pass them by. We talked to one of the neighbors and they said that they were going to smoke out the bees on Monday. Monday came around and we decided to go for a quick run in the morning. The run was Elder Wadsworths idea. He says he just likes running. But anyways we get back to our apartment and all the bees are DEAD. I guess they decided to kill them instead of smoking them out. We thought that surely killing bees would be illegal in California.
Last Pday we played volleyball, which was pretty fun. But it wasn't so fun for one of the other missionaries here, who said they would rather play board games. So this Pday we are playing board games.
Since Elder Wadsworth has been here he has discovered chia seeds. One of the previous missionaries left a bunch of them in our apartment. Apparently you are supposed to put them in water to make them release their special nutrients. Its actually pretty interesting when you put chia seeds in water, some of them float to the surface and some sink to the bottom, but some stay suspended in the water. Elder Wadsworth watched the chia seed in his bottle for at least 20 minutes one day.
There are a lot of fun little gadgets and things to play with in our apartment. Sometimes it can be a problem. First of all there are all of Elder Wadsworth's cubes, and then Elder Reid has a bunch of little magnetic balls. Elder Wadsworth loves those. He is always making weird cubes and shapes and things. We also have an electric keyboard. It can auto play all of the hymns. Usually we turn it on to bring the spirit in. It makes the apartment feel like a chaple.
Elder Wadsworth handed out his first Book of Mormon this week. We talked to a man in spanish who didn't seem too interested. I offered him a book, and asked if we could talk to him more about it sometime, and he denied. But Elder Wadsworth asked him again and he took it.
The same night he handed out the Book of Mormon we saw a small miracle. We were looking for a former investigator, when we ran into a lady named Blanca. We talked to her for only a few minutes and invited her to church. She said she would come. The miracle was that on Sunday she actually came! That never happens! As soon as she walked in the door the stake president's wife started talking to her, and she sat by her for the rest of the meeting. It is amazing how well this ward is at fellowshiping.
Sunday was an interesting day. Since it was fifth Sunday we were all combined for the third hour. The gospel principles teacher wanted to share stories with the missionaries instead, so that is what us five missionaries and he did.
Sunday night was the mission President's devotional. The mission president comes down to El Centro every year to speak, along with recent converts from that year. The missionaries who are musically inclined, and even some who are not so musically inclined, do musical performances. This year it was pretty good. The mission president really liked it, and said he wished the whole mission could've seen it to see how it should be done.
On Monday night we drove 20 minutes north to a tiny town called Calipatria. It's a pretty spooky little place. Elder Wadsworth wore Elder Reid's sweater, and he really liked it. There were also crazy dusty wind storms, and we got dust in our eyes.
Thank you for raising such a good man. Elder Wadsworth is eager and willing to learn, for which I am very grateful.
Love,
Elder Humble
